Following a recent visit to Il Prisma in Milan, Studio Alliance member Diem shares reflections on workplace culture, sustainability and the evolving role of collaboration within the future workplace. As part of the Studio Alliance network, regular visits between member firms create opportunities for knowledge-sharing, cross-cultural exchange and first-hand insight into emerging workplace trends and methodologies across different markets.
Travelling from Istanbul to Milan, the Diem team explored how Il Prisma’s approach to workplace strategy, material innovation and collaborative design is helping shape contemporary workplace environments, while reinforcing the value of international partnerships across the alliance.
A Workplace Designed Around Creativity and Collaboration
Located in one of Europe’s leading centres for design and architecture, Il Prisma’s workplace reflects a clear commitment to flexibility, employee wellbeing and creative exchange. The office environment moves beyond traditional workplace layouts, instead supporting collaboration, productivity and operational efficiency through carefully considered spatial planning.
Several features within the workspace demonstrated how design can actively support innovation and day-to-day functionality.
Material Lab System
A dynamic laboratory environment where materials are continuously reviewed, tested and updated as part of the wider design process. Rather than functioning solely as a display area, the space supports ongoing research into sustainable and innovative material applications.
Moodboard Areas
Dedicated collaboration zones where ideas, textures and colour palettes can be explored interactively. These spaces encourage creative dialogue and support the early development stages of workplace and architectural projects.
Material Archiving Solutions
Integrated storage systems positioned throughout the office provide immediate access to samples, references and material information. The solutions balance functionality with visual coherence, supporting efficient workflows across teams.
Sharing Knowledge Across Disciplines
A significant part of the visit centred on presentations from Il Prisma’s multidisciplinary teams, offering insight into the practice’s end-to-end project methodologies.
Sessions explored a range of topics, including:
- Design organisation and project coordination
- Construction site management and delivery processes
- ESG-led methodologies focused on reducing environmental impact while maximising social value
- Organisational frameworks that maintain design integrity throughout project delivery
- Marketing strategies that strengthen the relationship between architecture and corporate identity
The presentations demonstrated the value of integrated thinking across every stage of the workplace design process, while also highlighting the importance of collaboration between disciplines.
Fortalecimiento de alianzas internacionales
The visit concluded with an evening gathering in Milan, creating an opportunity for conversations to continue beyond the formal programme. The informal setting strengthened relationships between teams and reinforced the cultural value of international collaboration.
Despite operating within different geographical and cultural contexts, both teams shared a strong alignment in approach, values and workplace vision. The experience served as a reminder that meaningful global partnerships are built through the exchange of knowledge, perspectives and culture as much as through operational collaboration.
The Ongoing Value of the Studio Alliance Network
This visit further demonstrated the role of Studio Alliance in enabling international knowledge-sharing across the workplace design and real estate sectors.
Engaging directly with industry peers, observing best practice first-hand and exchanging expertise across markets continues to strengthen both organisations and projects alike.
We extend our sincere thanks to the team at Il Prisma for their hospitality in Milan, and to Studio Alliance for facilitating this valuable exchange.
