A new workplace for MOL in Prague blends the company’s global identity with a locally inspired design language. Located in the BREEAM-certified River Corner building, the two-floor office combines dynamic spatial concepts with carefully considered environments for focus, collaboration and restoration.
A workplace rooted in context
Studio Alliance member CAPEXUS designed and delivered a new office environment for MOL Česká republika in Prague. The workplace is located in the River Corner building — a BREEAM-certified development that already houses several projects delivered by the same design team, including the building’s Reception of the Year 2023, the premium VasMedic clinic, and a large rooftop terrace.
The project reflects a close collaboration with MOL’s wider management team. The result is a workspace that balances the organisation’s global brand identity with a design language informed by local context and working culture.
Designing for movement, energy and flow
The concept for the two-floor office environment was inspired by the ideas of movement, energy and the flow of ideas. These themes are expressed through dynamic wave-like forms that run throughout the interior.
These spatial elements serve multiple roles:
- Symbolising openness and organisational growth
- Referencing MOL’s heritage in the oil and gas industry
- Supporting a sense of continuity and movement across the workspace
Within the meeting and conference rooms, the design also incorporates visual motifs representing the different countries where MOL operates. This reinforces the company’s international presence and the importance of cross-border collaboration within the organisation.
Spaces for focus, restoration and informal exchange
Work areas were designed to prioritise clarity, calm and natural light. Light colour palettes support concentration and productivity, creating an environment suited to focused work.
By contrast, informal zones and relaxation areas introduce darker tones and warmer materials. These spaces are designed to encourage conversation, informal meetings and moments of pause during the working day.
This balance between focused and social spaces allows employees to transition easily between different work modes.
Architectural details that shape the workplace experience
A series of carefully considered design features help define the character of the space:
- Arched doorways along corridors, creating a refined architectural rhythm and smooth transitions between zones
- Suspended greenery and contemporary seating, bringing a natural element into the workplace and softening the interior environment
- Large glazed areas, maximising daylight penetration and providing views across the city
- A light carpet with a geometric pattern, visually organising the floorplate and subtly defining functional zones
Together, these elements create an environment that is both visually distinctive and supportive of everyday workplace needs.
A workplace designed for long-term performance
While the Prague offices adopt a more understated aesthetic than the 24-storey MOL Campus headquarters in Budapest, the space retains a strong sense of identity, functionality and representational quality.
The design supports MOL’s organisational culture by encouraging creativity, collaboration and interaction between teams. At the same time, it offers employees spaces where they can pause, recharge and find inspiration throughout the working day.
