CBS News London HQ Refurbishment by Area

Area has successfully completed the transformation of CBS News’s London headquarters. This project exemplifies how established office spaces can be reimagined to reflect modern ways of working, placing collaboration, transparency, and user experience at the forefront.

The refurbishment introduced a fully open-plan layout, enhanced the flow of natural light, and modernised key areas including reception and broadcasting zones. The result is a workspace that supports flexibility, communication, and high-performance journalism.

Adapting to Modern Working Styles

The shift from a cellular office structure to an open-plan environment supports the fast-paced and collaborative nature of CBS News’s operations. Enclosed spaces are now limited to bookable meeting rooms, reflecting a flexible approach to work that balances interaction with individual focus.

Enhancing Light and Space

By repositioning enclosed rooms, Area was able to maximise natural light throughout the office. The new layout feels brighter and more spacious, despite occupying a smaller footprint than before. Flexible meeting zones and communal areas further contribute to a more open and efficient workspace.

Supporting Core Functions

The broadcasting zone, central to CBS News’s output - remains a key feature of the office. While the core structure was retained, acoustic curtain treatments were added to improve performance during live recordings, ensuring minimal disruption and professional sound quality.

Creating a Positive First Impression

The former reception area was transformed into a bright, welcoming space that flows seamlessly into the office. A communal teapoint nearby offers staff a central hub to connect, recharge, and collaborate informally.
