At Calle de Goya 36 in Madrid, Studio Alliance member Grupo Cador has brought to life WeWork’s newest coworking centre, a flagship location in the heart of the capital.
This project, WeWork’s first in the Spanish capital in three years, exemplifies the shift towards work environments that meet the modern needs of startups, freelancers, and large corporations alike. With private offices, full-floor solutions, and flexible access services such as WeWork All Access and On Demand, the centre is designed to inspire productivity and collaboration in bright, functional spaces.
About WeWork Goya 36
Situated in a prime location in the Salamanca district, Goya 36 offers a flexible workspace tailored to modern professionals. From shared spaces for freelancers to private offices for companies, it is designed to cater to diverse working styles.
Scope of Work
Studio Alliance’s Spanish representative Grupo Cador transformed the space into a fully operational coworking hub while adhering to WeWork’s global standards.
“We held a tender and it was the company that offered us the most competitive budget and had the technical capacity to carry out the work within the scheduled timeframe,” explains Carolina Narciso, Project Manager at WeWork.
Building on a legacy of 15 successful WeWork spaces executed by Grupo Cador’s team in Mexico, the Madrid project was equally ambitious. The 4,500-square-metre building spans seven floors and demanded meticulous coordination among a wide range of stakeholders. Grupo Cador successfully collaborated with international teams, including management in Paris, design experts in London, and local supervisory and contractor teams in Madrid.
Adding to the complexity, the initial phase of the project involved dismantling and removing over 800 tables and chairs within just five days—a challenge that paved the way for the completion of the project in a record-breaking four months.
A Commitment to Sustainability
What sets WeWork Goya 36 apart is not only the speed and quality of its execution but also its firm dedication to sustainability. Grupo Cador embraced a practice known as "value engineering," which prioritises the use of local and environmentally friendly materials to reduce the project's carbon footprint without compromising on quality.
The design incorporates elements such as recycled PET acoustic panels, natural wood flooring, Castellón stoneware, lime mortar, carbon-neutral carpets, recycled plastic countertops, and clay lattices. These thoughtful choices reflect a harmonious balance between sustainability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
A Space Designed for Collaboration and Inspiration
Beyond its technical and environmental achievements, the Goya 36 coworking centre embodies the potential of workspaces to nurture collaboration, creativity, and well-being. The space is equipped with custom carpentry on every floor, alongside inviting communal areas like the pantry on the second floor, complete with a “beer island” and direct access to an outdoor patio. Modern finishes, panoramic views of one of Madrid’s most iconic streets, and a variety of flexible spaces come together to create an environment that redefines the traditional office.
Carolina Narciso sums it up perfectly: “We are looking at a project executed on time, with quality, and within budget.” Her words underscore the importance of strategic partnerships with professionals who share and understand the vision of such bold initiatives.
Paving the Way for the Future of Work
In an era where flexibility and sustainability are essential, WeWork Goya 36 stands as a shining example of how workspaces can evolve. It demonstrates that exceptional design, environmental responsibility, and the quality of the workspace can go hand in hand, paving the way for a brighter, more collaborative future of work.
